I have a special place in my heart for Joanna Mostroianni.

Her energy is authentic and I always just want to run up and give her a hug after her shows. Here is what Joanna stated as her incentive for her Spring collection. “Mother Nature is the most brilliant creative artist. This collection, inspired by my own garden, is a way of saying thank you for all that majestic beauty.”

The one thing I can say about Spring 2013 trends thus far, it’s making me smile. I think that is the purpose designers are taking on right now in this global era of uncertainty. Historically with the costume and fashion, this has always been so. More extreme expression both in color and sillhouette could be rooted to the source of political, economical and religious uncertainty. With all that in the air, at least we can express through how we dress! As Elsa Schiaparelli famously quotes, “In difficult times fashion is always outrageous.”

Specifically with Joanna Mostrioianni, I am struck with the 60′s inspiration when women first were really entering the work force, speaking up on politics regarding war, and advocating for the rights to their own bodies. Maybe its just my current head space, but the mod groove was definitely present and it made me want to speak of new and revived revolutions of not only style, but mind set.
The glory of all the color and the “trellis” inspired netting and corseting were stunning (If you go to her website link, you can see the show). The pieces were pretty, feminine and oh so inspiring…oh Ms. Mostrioianni, thank you for another great season. Perhaps a piece of yours (Fall 2012) is what we should choose to happily skip to polls in during November’s vote. RL
